CNG mother station

In pursuance of the vision to develop Gujarat as a gas based economy and to promote clean vehicular fuel, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) is building a comprehensive CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) infrastructure, starting with a model mother station near Hazira. Mott MacDonald was commissioned to provide basic design, detailed engineering, preparation of bid documents and detailed technical specifications, procurement assistance, construction management and supervision, commissioning assistance and overall project management for this pilot station.

The mother CNG station comprises of several units such as gas conditioning, gas compressors with a priority panel, storage cascades, dispensers and PLC control stations. The station was commissioned in record time and has been serving more than 500 vehicles per day including buses. Subsequently, GSPC engaged Mott MacDonald to prepare detailed engineering tender documents for fifteen numbers of CNG Stations across Gujarat.

LNG terminals

Our management consultancy team was independent lender’s engineer for both phases of Petronet’s LNG terminal at Dahej. Petronet LNG Ltd was formed in 1998 to build, own and operate the re-gasification terminal in Gujarat. Each phase has a capacity of 5 MMTPA and Phase II expansion involves an investment of INR 15,188 million.

Mott MacDonald was also ONGC’s technical adviser for its strategic investment in Hazira Port and LNG Terminal developed by Royal Dutch Shell in one of the largest FDIs in energy.

LPG bottling plant

HPCL LPG bottling plant at Nasik, one of several such plants we have designed and supervised Indian oil refinery major, Indian Oil Corporation's 20,000 cylinders per month / 3000 MTPA Leh bottling plant set up at a cost of INR 270 million not only enjoys the distinction of being the highest bottling plant in the world - situated at 11,500ft above sea level - but also ensures a supply of fuel in winter months when the mercury drops to -35 degrees centigrade.

Mott MacDonald's engineering team worked on design, detailed engineering, and procurement assistance and importantly on construction supervision in the tough terrain.

Natural gas compressor stations

Our Ahmedabad office has rendered the services for design, engineering, procurement assistance, site supervision and commissioning assistance for various capacities of natural gas compressors for clients like Gujarat Gas Limited (a subsidiary of British Gas), Gujarat State Petronet Ltd, Dresser Rand (for SOME at Singapore, ABAN in South India & Niko Resources at Hazira). Few of these compressor facilities had metering skids, pigging system and cross country pipeline.

FEED package for offsite and utility for motor spirit up-gradation facility

The project involved preparation of front-end engineering design for off-sites and utilities for motor spirit up-gradation facility for Gujarat refinery of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. The feed package consisted of facility for hydrogen storage, mounded bullet tanks of 1500 MT for LPG storage, fire hydrant and safety system, utility packages such as compressed air, cooling water and associated electrical packages. This project involved detailed study of the existing systems at IOCL and integration of the new facilities with the existing systems.

Cross country gas pipeline residual engineering, Gujarat

The project for a 16 km cross country natural gas pipeline from Ambapur to Gandhinagar along with the gas metering and pigging skid for Gujarat State Petronet Limited. The pipe diameter varied from 16” to 8”. The scope of services included line alignment and detailed engineering covering equipment layouts, piping layout with its alignment, stress analysis, lighting, instrumentation and control work.

Hitech carbon project, Patalganga

We provided extended basic and detailed engineering, procurement assistance and construction supervision services to 85,000 TPA carbon black production facilities for Hitech Carbon, a subsidiary of Birla Carbon. The sustainable aspects associated with the project were maximising heat recovery system; captive power generation to meet the requirements of the plant and export of excess power to the grid. The feed stock source are residues of petroleum refinery, steel plant and coal mines as well as tail gas post partial combustion of feedstock in reactor.

Akas and Al- Mansuria gas field development project, Iraq

We provided basic engineering to the 110 MMSCFD gas processing facility. Sweetened and dehydrated gas is mixed with separated condensate and exported from the Akas gas field development project. Sweetened and dehydrated gas is routed via Al-Mansuria gas field development project to a hydrocarbon dew point depression unit and the product gas is subsequently sent to a sales gas compression unit prior to metering and export.

Assam Renewal Project, Assam

MEIL is the EPC contractor for up-gradation of Lakwa and Lakhmoni oil and gas producing fields for ONGC. We are undertaking the pre-engineering survey, basic and detailed engineering and procurement assistance services for MEIL ONGC. The project encompasses five group gathering stations, two effluent treatment plants, water injection plants, two central tank farms, gas compressor plant and a captive power plant located at Lakwa.

PNG LNG Project

Exxon Mobile, operating as Esso Highlands Limited is building a pipeline network in Papua New Guinea to carry gas from various facilities. Spiecapag has been awarded the EPC contract and Mott MacDonald is carrying out the detailed engineering for 464 km onshore pipeline section along with design of associated equipment and infrastructure. The design is in accordance with Exxon Mobile Standards and in compliance to Australian standard AS 2285 which is stringent on flow assurance, seismic, dynamic stress design and safety management studies.

Konaban GGS up gradation and pipeline grid project, Tripura

ONGC is developing its existing and new onshore fields located at Tripura. We are appointed by Kazstroy in undertaking the pre-engineering survey, basic and detailed engineering of the project. The project involves up-gradation of Konaban GGS from 0.50 MMSCMD to 1.50 MMSCMD gas processing capacity.

Uran - Chakan LPG pipeline project

HPCL proposed to lay 145 km long 300 NB LPG pipeline starting from Uran to Shikrapur. The proposed Uran to Chakan pipeline is an extension of Mahul to Uran pipeline. The proposed pipeline will supply LPG to storage and bottling plant at Chakan and extend to Shikrapur to supply LPG to BPCL’s storage and bottling facilities.

Touat field development, Algeria

Touat Oilfield development – this project has drawn in skills and expertise from our centres of excellenceMott MacDonald’s services to CNPC and Sonatrach included detailed design, engineering, technical procurement support and related project management services on a scheme to construct a network of 30 production gathering flow lines, two field production facilities at Hassi Illatou and Oued Tourhar, two oil and gas trunk lines, a central production facility, a camp and an 81 km crude oil export pipeline to transport stabilized crude oil to the Soralchin Refinery near Adar.

Tank farm piping replacement – Amal engineering consultancy project, Libya

The project involves replacement of all existing network of buried, infill, discharge and cross over lines within the bunded area of the tank farm, involving 4 storage tanks, along with study & relocation analysis of the booster pumps. Mott MacDonald’s role involved initial site survey to develop ‘As- built’ and to review the current method of operation. Subsequently evaluation and recommendation of complete pipeline solutions for the Amal tank farm supplemented by necessary hydraulic calculations, surge analysis & stress analysis along with the preparation of construction scope of work for the company’s selected option.

For Amal Tank farm project in Libya, we undertook the initial site survey, reviewed the method of operation, evaluated and recommended pipeline solutions and prepared the construction scope of work for the selected option.
