Mott MacDonald has won two accolades at this year’s Construction
News Quality (CNQ) awards. The global management, engineering and
development consultancy scooped the coveted Health and Safety
Award, while the company’s work on the King’s Lynn biosolids plant
with Anglian Water won the Project £10m-50m category.
The Quality Awards are organised by leading industry magazine
Construction News publications to celebrate quality and encourage
innovation, management best practice and teamwork.
Mott MacDonald joined forces with Anglian Water to deliver the
King’s Lynn waste treatment plant for the client’s biosolids
project. This involved developing a new, more sustainable waste
treatment process that has enabled the client to further reduce its
carbon footprint. The two teams determined the delivery strategy,
procurement route and commercial model to deliver a low-carbon
solution for the project, making it a priority to identify
contractors with the right balance of technical skill and
teamworking style. The plan worked well, with the design and
construction delivered to programme by the Gallifordtry/Imtech
JV.
The teamwork employed particularly impressed the judges, who said
that the collaborative approach created “the freedom to deliver a
truly innovative solution utilising whole-life cost principles.”
They also praised, “the forward-thinking focus of the delivery
team. They created an environment that motivated its members to
innovate.”
The CNQ Health and Safety Award acknowledges that health and safety
is a top priority for Mott MacDonald and a key part of the
company’s corporate culture. The judges highlighted the commitment
of senior management and engagement with staff, as well as the
consultancy’s holistic approach to risk management and the
production of the innovative Circles of Protection DVD in 12
languages. The judges concluded that Mott MacDonald displayed, “An
impressive approach to a challenging part of the industry.”
Chris Davis, Mott MacDonald’s group professional excellence
champion said, “It’s terrific to see our achievements in health and
safety and our contribution to developing sustainable solutions and
innovative project management being recognised and rewarded at
these high-profile, prestigious awards. Mott MacDonald’s reputation
for innovation is truly world-leading and – following on from
receiving our gold award from the Royal Society for the Prevention
of Accidents earlier this year – our commitment to continual
advancement in the area of heath and safety is clearly attracting
attention and acclaim.”
