At Mott MacDonald our approach to sustainability involves embracing
opportunities and managing risks derived from economic,
environmental and social development – whether investing in ethical
pension funds or helping a customer meet recycling targets.
- As a responsible corporate citizen, employer and consultant,
Mott MacDonald takes sustainability very seriously and we have
integrated sustainable practice into our culture through our
values, projects and practices.
- We continuously seek solutions that are creative, practical and
efficient with a net positive social, environmental and economic
impact. Our wealth of multi-sector experts makes us an ideal
breeding ground for innovative solutions.
- We set out to be a proactive source of best practice on
sustainability from day one, helping our customers, communities and
supply chains to incorporate sustainability concepts.
We aim to follow the definition of sustainability laid down in the
Brundtland report - "meeting the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own
needs" and achieve a beneficial impact on people's lives through
the projects we help deliver. As a result, we also seek to ensure
that our solutions are implemented and managed in a manner that
will not adversely impact on the natural environment.
The very nature of our work means that improving the living
standards of local communities and reducing impacts on the
environment are high on the project agenda across our whole
business spectrum. For example our health and education specialists
are helping reform and develop services in many low and middle
income countries by building partnerships at all levels of
government and society, while our transport experts look at new
models for achieving sustainable highway maintenance services.
We’re committed to working in partnership with our customers,
communities and supply chains to incorporate sustainable design,
implementation and operation solutions into their projects and day
to day operations, whether it's providing access to cutting edge
renewable energy technologies or delivering training programmes for
healthcare managers.
Supporting our approach to corporate responsibility, our designs,
advice, skills and expertise incorporate sustainable thinking from
the outset and we seek solutions that are creative, practical,
efficient and have a reduced impact on the environment. We believe
that helping our clients develop sustainable projects and
programmes is where we can make a major contribution to the
sustainability agenda.
At the same time, we also assess our own operations and continue to
build on our sustainable approach to business. We are aiming to
reduce our per capita carbon footprint by a minimum of 5% year on
year. We will establish a carbon fund for any financial savings
arising from changes in our energy use behaviour and use this fund
to invest in further carbon reduction measures.
Our sustainability market in India has been chiefly in forestry,
water, energy and tourism. We expect this to continue and we seek
to be more involved especially in hydropower development, water
pollution control and demand management. Biodiversity, stakeholder
participation, remedial work on pollution water bodies and pro-poor
delivery of water services are all areas of our experience that are
relevant to this market.
